Running

Please excuse my absence from my blogging for almost a week now, I had a nightmarish 3 days of exams which sapped away all of my attention/energy.

Thankfully, I am now free from revision. However, my new-found freedom has been somewhat draining in itself. Hangovers and post-examination exhaustion do not couple well with my body clock's relentless decision to wake me up before 7am every morning. I desperately need a lie-in, and a few hundred smoothies, in order to feel fully recovered.

In a random attempt to make myself feel healthier and to burn off some of my morning energy, I found myself  on a run. I am a terrible runner. Last year I would get up and go on a run after a night out, whilst still semi-drunk, at 6am. I could cope with those because I was still drunk (and under 21). Whereas this morning, I bounced off feeling optimistically sober.

I soon remembered why I hadn't been going on runs. Exeter is very hilly, and the pavements are very busy and full of people you recognise. As I am too scared to run in remote places (because I want to avoid rapists and don't want to get lost for days) I chose to run pretty much along the main road, which the whole of Exeter seemed determined to drive along this morning. Even worse, I poorly timed my run to coincide with half 8ish, which meant I was running at the exact time that all of the unfortunate people who still have exams/revision were walking to campus. It was busy, I was bright red, and I couldn't breathe - it was hideous.

Despite my pessimism, once it was over I realised how much I had enjoyed myself. I liked being up and doing something in the fresh air. I liked feeling tired from physical activity, instead of mental fatigue. So it wasn't all bad! I probably even burnt a calorie or two. Who knows, I might even go wild and venture out on another run! I am taking my inspiration from the ladies at ELLE who are going crazy over running - their blogs and motivation are really helpful - http://www.elleuk.com/beauty/running/how-to-keep-on-running

On one last note, luckily for me, I am off to Bovey Castle tomorrow for a spa day of pampering and massages. I cannot wait! Will be blogging again about more of my experiences ASAP!

My favourite view, arguably looking a bit sleepy this morning. Here's hoping that it will be a sunny day...
